Plovdiv is the oldest continually inhabited city in Europe, with a history of inhabitation going back over 8000 years.
In my opinion it has one of the most beautiful old town in Europe, preserved very well, not contaminated by junk food and souvenir shops, invasive neon lights and all the other kitch rubbish that you can see in the majority of city centres.
