One year ago I decided to create and launch my website (budgeteurotrip.com) after have spent the previous year, travelling in Europe, mostly ‘on the road’ (Belgium, Netherlands, Hungary, Czech Rep, Serbia, Poland, Lithuania, Latvia, Estonia, Norway, Denmark, Macedonia, Albania, italy, Ukraine…).
Since that day I’m still ‘beating’ the road, visiting european cities and enjoying the pleasure to be amazed by the beauty of this continent, every single day!
However one thing has been (and always will be) more important than a nice building, a historical church, a museum, a landscape… every person I have met (and I’m going to meet) during this life-path.
I have learnt that the majority of people are nice, happy to help, open to listen, ready to live a proper life together with other people, sharing, smiling, loving each other.
If you are like them I can only say: Obrigado, thanks, arigatou, gracias, dekuji, grazie, merci, blagodaria, hvala, multumesc, tak, danke, aciu, dziekuje, spasibo, dakujem, komawo, diakoiu…
Why? Innsbruck is called ‘the Alps capital’ no more words are needed. It hosted twice the winter olympic games
What to do? Outdoor sports, outdoor sport and…outdoor sports! If you like mountains, skiing, hiking, snowboarding this is the place for you! From the city centre you can easily reach ski premises and Nordpark by public transportation
What to try? Have a meal at typical ‘gasthaus’, local family run genuine restaurant
Why? Enjoy the mixed atmosphere of this city, the recent historical communist past together with the former austro-hungarian empire and the italian legacy that are visible everywhere.
What to do? Visit the bridges all along the Ljubljanica river; be amazed by Metelkova mesto a squatting area with young and alternative people
What to try? my favorite balkan street-food is burek (a leafy dough pie, traditionally with mince meat or cheese filling) is available in every Pekara (bakery) for around 2€
Why? The city is historically famous for its traditional religious diversity, with Islam, Orthodoxy, Catholicism and Judaism coexisting there for centuries. Unfortunately is also known for the sad former-jugoslavia war. It hosted the winter olympics in 1984
What to do? Sarajevo is rising to its natural beauty and it will be European capital of culture for 2014; Enjoy the view of the city from the hills that surround it
What to try? Bosnian coffee, balkan delicious food (cevapi, burek, pita, grilled meat, cheese…)
Oh yes, cause the beginning of a tour includes also the end of it…
When waiting for the next bus connection to Zagreb, in Banja luka I could enjoy some funny signs…
As I did when I arrived in Zagreb
How could I spend my time while travelling?
When I reached Ljubljana, this time the weather wasn’t that favorable, so I had to spend more time in closed places…
But still my thoughts are always concentrated in positive topics
Arriving at Trieste my balkan tour was over…but not for long! Next week I’m travellingagain ‘on the road’ !!! 🙂
