Naples/Napoli

Napoli was founded between the 7th and 6th centuries BC by the Greeks and was named Neapolis, which means new city. The historic centre of Naples has earned the UNESCO World Heritage Site denomination. It has one of the biggest historical city centres in the world with the highest number of churches in the World.

Napoli is one of the  symbol of the Italian beauty, its panorama is unique, made by the small magical islands of its gulf (Capri and Ischia), city hills and the Vesuvio volcano the stunning  Sorrento’s peninsula. A visit in this city is something out of ordinary…

People in Naples are extremely nice and gentle, and often people are helped by Neapolitans to find some gorgeous attraction not shown in the tourist guide, however be careful when someone approach you and in general, of course, avoid empty streets and dimly-lit alleys at night, do not leave valuables laying out in the open, do not flash around money or other valuables, it is advised not to carry a purse as it can be snatched or “picked” by thieves.

Wear sunglasses Cool everyday, doesn’t matter the weather condition! Be cool and wear smart clothes and  accessories, Italy is the world centre of fashion

In Napoli you can find probably the best coffe in Italy (due to special water flavor…influenced by the Vulcan Vesuvio). Ask for ‘Espresso’ and drink it straight at the bar, standing up, it should be drunk within 3 sips.

Use your hands when communicate with Ilocals, as well as body and facial movements (according with the conversation) this is considered the real Italian language. If you want to say ‘I don’t have any idea’ imagine to carry a large dish, with the palms of your hands up in the same time with your face make an expression as you would be drinking something bitter with a straw; If you want to say ‘I forgot it!’ slap your forehead and make a big fake smile

Don’t miss the opportunity to watch a football match of Napoli. Neapolitan are crazy in love with this club.

Discover Naples as you’ve never seen before on a vintage Vespa in the company of a friendly and experienced guide! Tour is also available for Amalfi coast, Flegrean fields…for a unique and funny experience (find more info here)

pizzatribunaliTry the unique, real pizza, Margherita, this is the city where it was born, it’s healthy and despite the simple ingredients (mozzarella and tomato sauce) is stuffy! The best choices would be near Via dei Tribunali (historical centre)  and ‘Da Michele’, this pizzeria has a unique feature: they only do pizza Margherita or Marinara (just tomato, garlic and oregano, and a splash of oil, of course!). They say that these two kinds are the original pizza, if you add too much toppings you’ll lose the real taste of the pizza, that is very simple, made only of a good, thin base, good tomato, and fresh mozzarella (if this is the case). Note that there is usually a queue at these restaurants – At Da Michele get a numbered ticket from the waiter on the door when you arrive

Keep in mind that the city centre is not the “rich part” of the city, so the historical centre may be somehow gritty and in some parts impoverished . If you want to visit the elegant part of the city, you can walk around the wonderful promenade ‘lungomare’ (the Riviera di Chiaia or Via Francesco Caracciolo), and visit Via dei Mille, Vomero and Posillipo hill, also by using the funicular train. Once there, in the upper part you will enjoy the view of the city and…it will be always stored in your file ‘good memories’ Smile

100_9318Visit the Nativity scene street, Via San Gregorio Armeno (situated in the oldtown), you will breath history, culture and genuine local social life.

Use the subway to get around the city. There are six lines of underground subway in Naples. Many subway stations are regarded as fine examples of contemporary architecture and artistic urban decoration, being part of the Stazioni dell’Arte project. Don’t miss the opportunity to use (with same urban ticket) the funicular train that brings to the upper city (Vomero) and once there enjoy the view of the city…it’s priceless!

pozzuolifishermanPozzuoli lies in the center of the Campi Flegrei. In the evening many pubs, restaurants and clubs make Pozzuoli a locals favorite destination

Reggia di Caserta ia a huge 18C royal palace and hunting lodge designed by architect Vanvitelli and rivaling Versailles. Magnificent, enormous park with lakes, rivers, statues, fountains and marvellous views. By train from Naples to Caserta (about 40 minutes journey).
