Lisbon

17From Porto my next destination was the capital of Portugal, Lisbon.

Recently Lisbon has been declared one of the most visited city in Europe and I have to agree, there are many reasons for that.

Tasty food, warm weather, good nightlife, monuments and cultural events. These are some of the reasons.

For going out, stroll around the old neighborhood of Bairro Alto (‘high neighborhood’) for an after-dinner caipirinha or ginjinha and people-watching. Its small streets, full of people, are packed with a high variety of bars.

1 First tip: stay at Lisbon Old town hostel. Beautiful building, warm hospitality, nice location and good prices.

Other tips:

9 Take tram 28 route  goes through the “Old Town” taking you by many of Lisbon’s most famous and interesting sites including monuments, churches and gardens. Do not miss the view from ‘Porta do Sol'(see pictures below)

alfama2 Feira de Ladra is a flea market in the Alfama quarter, On saturday late morning until afternoon.

20Try the magnificent pastéis de nata at any pastelaria; or better yet, visit the Antiga Confeitaria de Belém

18 Most restaurants are very small, family run and generally cheap. Some of them have a sheet on the door with the “pratos do dia” (dishes of the day) written on it. These dishes are usually cheaper and fresher than the rest of menu there, and unless you’re looking for something specific, they’re the right choice

alfama Visit Alfama neighbourhood and search for a fado show
