Yep! the second stop of my last tour was Poznan, a polish city, famous for the protest against communism in 1956. A beautiful square and the Ostrów Tumski (Cathedral Island), famed as the spot on which Poznań was founded, is a quiet island, with a permanent population consisting mostly of bishops, priests and monks. These are the main sightseeing spots.

From Berlin by ‘polski bus’ it took something like 3 hours in a comfortable bus, booked online for 15€

Nowadays Poznan is known for one of the most beautiful shopping mall and for the football club ‘Lech Poznan’ (at least among men).

Unfortunately I visited the city at the beginning of November, which coincides with a very participating national holiday to honour the dead, therefore almost everything was closed for the 1st of november, even restaurants and pubs (was friday…). Bear it in mind if you are thinking of a trip in the late autumn! 😉

Have a drink at Pijalnia, polish vodka or beer for 1 €

Don’t waste your money! best places are the ‘milk bar’ (ask for bar mleczni) or small family run bistrò. Lunch (only, not open in the evening) for less than 2,5€ try the local pierogi (kind of ravioli) and kopitka (potato dumpling). In one of the main street from the main square there are two small and old style lunch bistrò that I strongly suggest. Mostly local people go there, so don’t expect translated menu!!!!

And at the end, for sport men… 🙂
